Job Description

Wolcott Street School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Elementary Reading Teacher to support students in developing strong foundational literacy skills.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about reading instruction, skilled in differentiating instruction, and committed to meeting the diverse needs of all learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted reading instruction to individual students and small groups based on assessed needs
  • Utilize evidence-based literacy practices aligned with district curriculum and standards
  • Administer and analyze reading assessments to inform instruction and monitor student progress
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, intervention teams, and support staff to design and implement effective literacy strategies
  • Participate in MTSS/RTI processes, including data collection and progress monitoring
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies for support at home
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of student growth and interventions
  • Support a positive and inclusive learning environment
Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Elementary Education (Birth-Grade 6 or equivalent)
  • Certification in Literacy (Reading Teacher or Literacy Specialist)
  • Strong understanding of structured literacy and evidence-based reading instruction
  • Experience working with diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners
  • Knowledge of assessment tools and data-driven instruction
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with intervention programs and progress monitoring systems
  • Background in special education or dual certification (preferred but not required)
