Job Description

The Le Roy Central School District is seeking a 1.0 FTE probationary Instrumental Music Teacher.  Primary responsibilities will include directing the Senior High and Junior High bands, teaching Music Theory/History and General Music, and teaching woodwind lessons.  The successful candidate will also have many opportunities to work with students in extracurricular areas, including our Marching  Band and Musical.

The Le Roy music program supports over 300 students in chorus and over 200 students in band throughout the district.  Le Roy has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education eleven of the last twelve years.  Le Roy is one of 4% of districts across the nation to receive this prestigious award in 2017.

The Junior/Senior High School is a building of 560 students and 78 staff members that offers a small school environment with big opportunities for our students in both academic and extracurricular areas.  We have a very diverse and vast course catalog that allows our students to challenge themsevles and expand their horizons.  We look forward to hiring an individual that will be an immediate positive impact on our school community.

Job Qualifications

The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Minimally have NYS Certification in Music
  • Demonstrate a collaborative style
  • Possess a deep caring for and understanding of students
  • Possess the ability to conduct large ensemble rehearsals as well as teach group lessons on all band instruments
  • Possess the ability to arrange music for both large and small ensembles
  • Have proficiency with music notation software and other technology
  • Have marching band/drum corps leadership
  • Preferably have jazz teaching experience
  • Preferably have Musical Pit Orchestra performance experience
  • Challenge and support ALL learners
  • Possess the ability to building meaningful and successful relationships with students, staff, parents and administration of the district
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate a firm belief in the worth and potential of all students
